Sustainable Rice: Knowledge to Grow
The Ri.So project was created to promote environmental sustainability in rice cultivation in Lombardy, providing stakeholders with the tools and knowledge needed to tackle the challenges posed by climate change. Through a series of four in-person meetings, the project aims to share innovative strategies and sustainable farming practices, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the protection of biodiversity, and the improvement of soil and water resource management.
The four meetings will cover the following topics:
• Emissions and Carbon Farming – focusing on reducing the environmental impact of fertilisation and on regenerative agriculture;
• Rice protection technologies – from the use of drones to Decision Support Systems (DSS) and the evolving regulations on plant protection products;
• Soil organic matter and carbon credits – promoting soil fertility and enhancing agriculture’s role in reducing CO₂ emissions;
• Rice and environmental protection – addressing crop management in Natura 2000 areas and the issue of heavy metals in soils.
Through these meetings, Ri.So aims to promote the adoption of more sustainable and resilient farming practices, supporting the rice sector on its path toward innovation and adaptation to climate change.
Project co-financed by Operation SRH04 – Informative actions of FEASR-Programme of Rural Development 2023-2027.
